Jason Lyons (Australia)
Aged 38 from Mildura, one of the sports classy elder statesmen and such a perfect signing for the Perry Barr side on their return to the sport. He has become a Brummie legend.

Garry Stead`s comment:
"I have known Jason for many years. Most of the time he was at Belle Vue but I rode against him in the Northern Riders at Sheffield. He`s been an all-round good rider who`s made good progress ever since Glasgow in 1990. Probably in his last few years now, spending time with the younger kids and helping in the Premier League."

  Tai Woffinden (England)
Aged 18 from Scunthorpe, of all todays competitors no-one faces a more important year than Tai. Having opted to be English rather than an Aussie, he is this country`s number one hope for the future.

Garry Stead`s comment:
"I have spent quite a but of time with Tai this last year. Another new kid on the block, rode in my meeting and won the first heat with ease. Seen him many times and whispered different things in his ear. I think they are putting a little to much pressure on the kid and that can sometimes work against a rider."

  Scott Nicholls (England)
Aged 30 from Ipswich. 5 times British Champion and undisputed UK number 1. A thrilling and stylish rider with more yet to prove and achieve.

Garry Stead`s comment:
"Scott isn`t a rider I know well though I have seen him around a long time, since his Ipswich days. Obviously he is one of the best British riders around. He can always pull it out of the hat when he needs to."

  Jason Crump (Australia)
Aged 33 originally from from Bristol in the UK, one of the big names to bow out of British Speedway this season to gain a clearer run at the GP`s and a more organised fixture list and with leading the GP scene he`s having a great time in his career.

Garry Stead`s comment:
"I`ve known Jason for a long time and I thinks he`s great. He puts a lot of money into charity but doesn`t like people to know that. He`s a great rider- when you are a World Champion and everyone wants to beat you, it brings a lot of pressure. Didn`t start 2008 well until he won Cardiff and got going again."

  Ben barker (England)
Aged 21 from Truro. After 2 seasons at Stoke, making the move to the Elite with the Bees for whom he has ridden as No.8. Very aggressive and determined, sure to provide plenty of entertainment this year.

Garry Stead`s comment:
" One of the new kids on the block- already the winner of the New Year Classic at Poole. I rode with him at Stoke at the beginning of 2007. He needs to find the right bike set-ups, sometimes his preparation isn`t right, but he has a bright future in front of him if he gets it right. very capable and could go as far as the GP`s."

  Leigh Adams (Australia)
Aged 37, surely the best ever rider not to have won the World title (which he is probably fed up with hearing about). The ultimate professional, immaculate.

Garry Stead`s comment:
"I`ve known Leigh for a long time and have had the opportunity to watch him at Leszno where he is Mr Leszno.
The best rider in 10 years in Poland, Sweden, Denmark, UK. I would love to see him be World Champion but he hasn`t quite had the luck. I hope he will stay involved when he finishes, he has given me a lot of pleasure.

  Simon Stead (England)
Aged 26 from Sheffield, one of the great Owlerton specialists. At a bigger home track this year which could give him the boost to move forward in his career.

Garry Stead`s comment:
" I know Simon quite well, he`s a Sheffield lad though I dont see a lot of him now. He`s had a lot of pressure on him from his early days. One of the quickest riders at Sheffield, he`s maybe gone a little stale but I hope he progresses this year, he`s a nice kid. Maybe needs a bit better luck to recharge his career."

  Edward Kennett (England):
Aged 22 from Hastings. Moving away from Eastbourne Eagles this year could be the season for Eddie`s undoubted talent to blossom.A daring and exciting riding from a famous speedway family.

Garry Stead`s comment:
"Eddie`s another who has been put under a lot of pressure from and early stage. Obviously want to go the GP stage and I think he will. But all the British guys need to have a good think about what it takes to succeed at the top level, I think the British are a bit behind. But I think Eddie will have a bright future."

  Freddie Lindgren (Sweden):
Aged 23 from Orebr, one of the brilliant young riders vying for GP success as well as a fine top line rider.

Garry Stead`s comment:
"Freddie did my meeting in 2007 and I have spoken to him at Wolverhampton. He`s a very good rider, thought I think he has a lot of pressure put on him. He has had a few bangs but he has everything in front of him and can push on towards the World Championship."
