Richard Lawson was the winner of the ninth Ben Fund Bonanza on his home track, forcing his way to the front in the Final after he had only finished as fourth qualifier over the first twenty heats.
Richie Worrall had been top qualifier with 14 points, and he eventually got the favourable gate 4 in the final (he felt he should have been given first pick as top qualifier but got the gate he wanted anyway). He finished third in the final behind Chris Harris who had been probably the most entertaining rider of the day.

Bomber came from last to first in his first ride, the best heat of the day, and another good one was Richie Worrall's late pass to win a heat from Aaron Summers.

Fourth in the final was Edinburgh's new boy Ricky Wells who was penalised for a tapes offence in his first race then reeled off four excellent victories.

There was a scare over the weather which was damp and drizzly before start time, but by the end of the meeting it was a pleasant afternoon. The early heats were delayed by a few tape problems but the later ones were rattled through speedily enough.

Max Clegg took a couple of tumbles but even though the track was slippery most riders got round without much problem. Considering how early in the year the events have been, nine meetings staged since 2009 without any serious weather problems is quite an achievement.

Winner of the prize for the fastest time was Steve Worrall with 58.27 in heat 12. In addition to the 21 senior heats we have four races involving the youngsters, with Leon Flint impressing in his two victories in the 250cc class. Harry McGurk won the two 125cc races.

The Benevolent Fund will have been given another decent boost but with £78,000 paid out to injured riders over the last year, there can be no letup.
