Sad loss for the sport

The sport of Speedway and the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund have suffered a sad loss with the passing of well-known referee David Dowling. Dave and his wife Maureen have been an ever-present support and help in SRBF affairs, especially the Bonanza, for which they have purchased the trophies and medals for the past ten years (and had already done so for this year's event).
Dave took his turn as meeting referee for the Bonanza in 2010 at Rye House, probably the most successful event so far, and he was still there last year at the Peterborough staging even though his personal health was not great at that stage. He will be greatly missed.
