Normally what happens when you are on a long distance journey, the first thought for the participants is how to make the trip quicker next time around, Not for Charlie Arnold and Ben Clifton it wasnt.
After travelling to Cardiff for the 2022 sgp of Britain from Kent via the conventional means of M20,M26,M25,M3,M4 with Ben's daughter. For the 2023 event the pair have taken the much less conventional route of walking the 200 plus miles to raise money for 3 fantastic charities close to thier hearts.
The walk which will hopefully take a week to complete starting at Ashford United FCs (where Ben volunteers as a steward) home game on August 26 and ending at the Principality Stadium on September 2 just in time for the Speedway GP, the lads hope they will be able to finish with a lap of the stadium.
The 3 charities will be ones that affect every single reader Speedway Riders Ben Fund, Mind, and Macmillan Cancer.
Charlie is a 62 year old Crayford fan, who still follows local speedway teams up and down the country despite his own team being gone for many decades. He has recently had major surgery on a dodgy ankle so this will be a true challenge for the body and mind.
Ben is a 42 year old son of former Canterbury Rider Graham Clifton and more recently his cousin Luke also riding speedway. Ben will be a familiar face to anyone who visited Central Park in 2019 and 2021 where Ben was Centregreen presenter and he is currently 2nd halve coordinator for the Iwade based Kent Royals.
Any donation however small will be greatly appreciated by both, and during the journey they hope to take on some bonkers challenges which will be put out on the social media platforms during the weeklong event.
