It's a big week in Speedway and following the Speedway of Nations, the Ben Fund Bonanza restaging takes place at Workington on Sunday 14th (start 3pm). It will be the 14th staging of the Bonanza.
The Workington promotion have arranged fairground attractions outside the stadium for early arrivals, and gates will open at 12:30pm. There will be memorabilia stalls and also a stall manned by the meeting sponsors who are the World Speedway Riders Association.
Amongst the headline names will be GP riders Dan Bewley and Jan Kvech, and former British Champions Craig Cook, Danny King, Charles Wright and Adam Ellis. Cook and King are also the only double winners of the Bonanza.
It's been a long time coming since the March postponement. SRBF Chairman Paul Ackroyd is happy with how arrangements have gone and he says "To say we were devastated back in March to lose the original meeting to terrible weather is an understatement but I'm very happy with the field we have been able to gather, with Grand Prix riders and British Champions, and I have been most impressed with the work that Workington have done to ensure the success of the event.
"Also attending will be British Speedway Legend Chris Morton along with Derek Richardson and John Curtis. The three of these more mature gentlemen are about to embark on one of the most challenging missions of their lives in aid of our wonderful charity."
In his programme notes for the meeting Ackroyd mentions recent severe injuries to Jason Doyle, Tai Woffinden, Rory Schlein and Tate Zischke as a reminder of the importance of the fundraising Bonanza.
The meeting will be covered by the British Speedway Network for those who can't attend, which will be another boost to the SRBF.
