The Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund were very happy to again play a part as the World Speedway Riders' Association held their awards dinner in Leicester last weekend.
The two organisations co-operate a great deal and the SRBF were involved in the first two presentations of the evening, screened live by BSN. First up was Chris Louis to receive on behalf of Ipswich Speedway the shield awarded to the track with the highest total of the year in the track collections. The Witches and their supporters collected a superb £3,362.58. The presentation was made by Alex Harkess.
Next up was the SRBF Achievement of the Year award, and this went very deservedly to the Walk Speedway trio of Scott Frame, Laura Pollard and Greg Blair who completed a sponsored walk from Berwick to Redcar and raised an incredible £10,000 for the Ben Fund.
In handing over the awards SRBF Chairman Paul Ackroyd described the moment that the walkers completed the journey, with the two teams racing on the night (Redcar and Workington) forming a guard of honour, as his "Most Humbling Moment".
The intrepid trio paid full tribute to several others including riders who had been involved with their walk.
